This is my third weight loss blog and hopefully it will also be my last and remain a permanent part of my life, as I think blogging about something keeps you on top of it and stops you from forgetting about it in the future.
Having moved to Gibraltar recently (known locally as 'The Rock'), losing weight is now not only essential for my happiness and health but it's also essential to stop myself from melting away in to a puddle of lard in the summer (which, in all fairness, would be pretty embarrassing if it happened at work).
At the moment we're still in May and the locals have said it doesn't get hot until July and August; Today, BBC Weather tells me it will be 29°C (approximately 84°F) and I know the locals will still be walking around in coats and jumpers. If this is cold, I don't think I'm ready to experience hot - which is why the weight must go!
I live next door to a cheap market full of healthy fruit and veg, I've joined a gym nearby my house, I have access to swimming pools with my apartment and on top of all that I have a gigantic rock to walk up whenever I like - I really am in ideal dieting surroundings.
The tip of the Rock of Gibraltar
I don't think I'm going to follow a specific diet plan to start off with this time, I'm just going to make a conscious effort to eat healthily and exercise then take it from there. I'm going to use this blog as a food diary (in addition to a blog) whenever I remember to and I'll also keep it updated with my weights and progress.
I've just woken up and weighed in at 10am, after a glass of water but before eating or dressing (excl. silk pyjamas), and here's how we look for starting figures (my scales give all sorts of information so I'll just post it all):
Date & Time: 27/05/12 10:00
Weight: 21st 1.8lbs (295.8lbs / 134.2kg)
BMI: 43.8
BMR*: 2632 Kcal
Body Fat: 38.3%
Muscle Mass: 35.3%
Body Water: 45.2%
*If you're unfamiliar with BMR, it's an estimation of the energy your body expends whilst resting (measured in calories); So in theory, if I stay below this number, I should be losing weight.
As this is day 1, I'll also take some starting measurements; I'm awful at taking accurate measurements, so take these with a pinch of salt:
Waist: 53in
Chest: 49in
Hips: 48in
Today I'm meant to be going to the gym with my friend and her husband, then tomorrow after work I have my first Personal Training session booked - I think I might be throwing myself in a little too much, too soon, but there's only one way to know for sure!
I'll do my best to keep you posted daily, hopefully this won't fizzle out into another failed weight loss blog!

You go for it!
ReplyDeleteI'm on my millionth weight loss attempt and have started a blog (thanks for following btw) to help motivate me.
I check out motivational blogs pretty much every day and tomorrow I start the Insanity workout :)
Me very jealous of your move to Gibralter. Was it easy?
Linda
Hi there Linda - thanks for following! ^_^
ReplyDeleteKeeping up with these types of blogs is definitely a powerful motivation tool - In the past I've never been that great with them and they tend to die out after a month or two so I have to make a bit of a conscious effort this time not to let that happen!
Saw your Insanity purchase - comment incoming on your blog about that :-)
Moving to Gib was incredibly easy, yes - I've moved to a few places before, lived in Ireland for the past 2 years and France the year before that for example, and I think I've found Gib the easiest. The first language out here is English and if you're British (because it's a British colony) then you can just walk in and get a job, no questions asked (employment rate is something crazy like 98%).
The lifestyle and industry over here suits me very well, sadly though, the weather doesn't, so here's to hoping I survive the summer!
